Columbus Crew SC at eMLS qualifiers
Over the past few months the Columbus Crew SC has been in the spot light for the controversial idea of moving them to Texas. However this week we turn our attention to something new and exciting for the club. For the first time in history the Columbus Crew SC has signed two eSports competitors to represent them in a new league for the EA Sports FIFA 18. In January, MLS launched eMLS and 19 MLS teams will participate.
On Monday February 5th, 2018 a crowd of fans gathered outside of the Microsoft store in Easton Town Center in Columbus, Ohio to watch Graham “Skamzz” Ellix and Nenad Stojkovic go head to head in a Playoff Event. With the winner representing the Black & Gold at the inaugural eMLS Cup taking place at PAX East in April, the stakes were high.
Graham “Skamzz” Ellix was born in Exeter, Devon, United Kingdom and is based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. He has been professionally playing FIFA since 2008. Skamzz has played for Yo-Yo tech, Team Dignitas, and Team Infused in the UK. He not only is ranked as an Elite 1 Player but also has been amongst the Top 100 Players for FIFA Ultimate Team Champions. The 25 year old is also ranked among the Top 100 FIFA players worldwide and Top 25 in the Americas’ Region.
Nenad Stojkovic was born in Parma Heights, Ohio and is based out of Cleveland, Ohio. He also is ranked as an Elite 1 Player in FIFA Ultimate Champions and is also ranked among the Top 100 Players in the Americas’ Region. Stojkovic is the former 2010 FIFA Interactive World Champion and is the only U.S. FIFA World Champion in history. The Ohio native was also a quarterfinalist in the 2010 FIFA Interactive eWorld Cup and provided commentary for the 2012 edition of the same tournament.
“Columbus Crew SC is pleased to welcome Graham and Nenad as our first competitive gamers in Club history,” said President of Business Operations Andy Loughnane. “eMLS is an important extension of our Club and we are truly honored to have signed two world-class players who both bring significant experience and expertise to the competition. We wish them both the best as they represent the Black & Gold.
The Columbus Crew SC is no stranger to MAXNOMIC as the players can be found sitting in them on the sideline benches or in their conference rooms. Being a partner not only to Microsoft but also a huge supporter to the MLS team we jumped on board at the chance to be a part of this moment in club history.
Seeing as our custom in house embroidery has an extremely fast turn-around we were able to embroider custom chairs for Skamzz and Nenad in 2 days. We have embroidered custom chairs for both Microsoft and the Columbus Crew SC in the past. We also have had chairs at numerous booths for the past 4 years at all PAX events which include South, East and West (prime). So we are just as excited as anyone for the opportunity of our local MLS Team to have the opportunity to get one step closer on the road to the FIFA eWorld Cup. The competition at PAX East in Boston will determine the UA and Canada qualifiers who will enter the Global Series Playoffs later this year.
“This Step forward into competitive gaming is a key component in our partnership with EA Sports to promote deeper engagement and connections between MLS supporters and millions of FIFA plyers around the world,” said MLS Business Ventures President and Managing Director, Gary Stevenson.
During the intense Crew SC Gamer Playoff Event, Nenad held his ground and proved himself worthy to wear Black & Gold but in the end Graham came out on top. In a comeback series victory and a goal in the final minute of overtime Graham wins the opportunity to represent The Columbus Crew SC at the first ever eMLS Cup in Boston next month.
We are so excited for the future of eMLS and cannot wait to see how far our local MLS team will go in the upcoming year.
